It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Ely, which covers most of Cambridgeshire and western Norfolk, Essex, and Bedfordshire. It is the seat of the Bishop of Ely and a suffragan bishop, the Bishop of Huntingdon. [1] Architecturally, Ely Cathedral is outstanding both for its scale and stylistic details.

The Bishop of Ely. The Right Reverend Stephen Conway was confirmed as the 69 th Bishop of Ely on 6 th December, 2010. He was installed in Ely Cathedral on Saturday, 5 th March, 2011. Bishop Stephen announced he will be leaving the Diocese of Ely to become Bishop of Lincoln in May 2023, and gave his final Sermon as Bishop of Ely on 16th July 2023.
