His health collapsed, and he died of pneumonia at Chiswick House on 8 August 1827, whilst still in office. His tenure of 119 days in office made him the shortest-serving prime minister in history, a title he held for 195 years until Liz Truss' premiership in 2022, which lasted 49 days.

8th August 1827 George died at Chiswick House in West London at the age of 57 years. His health had been in steep decline since January that year, when he became so ill it was thought he might not have recovered. His total period in office remains the shortest of any Prime Minister, a mere 119 days. George was buried in Westminster Abbey in London.

It took him the greater part of these four months to form his government, and the task had not been completed at his death.
