22 de abr. de 2024 · First Time I Saw Carmen McRae. by Carol Sloane August 23, 2023. It was in the early 1960's. I had by that time lived in New York's Greenwich Village for a couple of years, and went to hear Carmen McRae when she made an appearance at one of the holy shrines of jazz located in my neighborhood, a club with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and great Italian food.

Never content to remain static, Ms. McRae was constantly evolving throughout her 40+ year career and eventually was recognized as one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th Century alongside Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald.
