Carmen McRae was an American jazz vocalist and pianist who from an early emulation of vocalist Billie Holiday grew to become a distinctive stylist, known for her smoky voice and her melodic variations on jazz standards.

The sleeve indicates the presence of Ray Bryant on the piano stool but he actually only plays on four tunes. The singer and Ronnel Bright share piano duties elsewhere.
