Musician, composer. Instrument (s) Piano. Cedar Anthony Walton Jr. (January 17, 1934 – August 19, 2013) was an American hard bop jazz pianist. He came to prominence as a member of drummer Art Blakey 's band, The Jazz Messengers, before establishing a long career as a bandleader and composer.

19 de ago. de 2013 · One of the great hard bop pianists, Cedar Walton was also known for his compositions, some of which have become jazz standards, such as "Bolivia," "Clockwise," and "Firm Roots." Walton was first taught piano by his mother, and, after high school, moved to Colorado to commence studies at the University of Denver.
