My goal was 700 words. The first couple of sessions, I just thought of words I have known since I was a kid. Words I really knew and didn’t have to look up. I am not a fluent Chamorro speaker, but I heard, learned and used many Chamorro words and phrases while I growing up in Inarajan, Guam. I was happy when 100+ words came up so easily.
26 de abr. de 2018 · 2. When someone thanks you in Chamorro, you can oblige them with a reply. The typical way to do this in most languages is to say something equivalent to “you’re welcome!”. Buen Prubechu! You’re welcome! In Chamorro, the way to say “you’re welcome” is buen prubechu. The phrase comes directly from the Spanish buen provecho.
21 de jul. de 2020 · Guadalupe likes spicy kelaguen. mala’et. Mala’et is how you say “bitter” in Chamorro. You use it to describe your coffee or maybe certain vegetables. Ti ya-ña si Lucio mala’et na nengkanno’. Lucio does not like bitter food. ma’aksom. Ma’aksom is the Chamorro word for anything that’s “sour” or “tangy.”.
In his Chamorro Reference Grammar, Donald M. Topping states: "The most notable influence on Chamorro language and culture came from the Spanish.... There was wholesale borrowing of Spanish words and phrases into Chamorro, and there was even some borrowing from the Spanish sound system. But this borrowing was linguistically superficial.
