A changeling, also historically referred to as an auf or oaf, is a human -like creature found throughout much of European folklore. A changeling was a substitute left by a supernatural being on kidnapping a human being.

Changeling, in European folklore, a deformed or imbecilic offspring of fairies or elves substituted by them surreptitiously for a human infant. According to legend, the abducted human children are given to the devil or used to strengthen fairy stock. The return of the original child may be effected.

6 de oct. de 2021 · The legends state that more male human babies were exchanged with changelings, and indeed male children have more birth defects. Moreover, changelings are often described with features similar to birth defects like progeria, autistic behaviors, and others.

Description. The changeling is a creature that is found in folklore throughout Europe. It is said to be a human-like fairy that is left in place of a human baby that is stolen by fairies. In northern myth, the story is nearly the same with the difference being that instead of fairies they are trolls [1,2].
