The happiest years of his early childhood were spent between 1817 and 1823 in Chatham, Kent, where he attended school and was first introduced to the world of literature and drama.

I thought about how moved I was throughout the book, how amazing it felt to know Charles Dickens so much better, how impressed I was with not only Dickens, but also with Peter Ackroyd. What a phenomenal accomplishment.
