Inscription reads: In Memory Of Captain W G Middleton. who was killed on this spot when riding in the Midland. Sportsmen's Point to Point Race. The stone is dated on the top W G M April 9th 1892. His grave is by the south door of Hazelbech church and is now surmounted by a handsome white marble memorial with his nickname ‘Bay’ on the reverse.
