Christina Rossetti's “Remember” is a poem about grief, told not from the perspective of a mourner but rather the person who's to be mourned. In this sonnet, the speaker begs a loved one to remember her after her death—but also not to feel guilty if he forgets her, so long as she's made some permanent mark on his life and he remains happy.

In ‘Remember,’ Christina Rossetti taps into themes of life, memory, forgetting, loss or death, and love. The latter is seen most clearly through the last lines of the poem. The speaker’s love for her listener is stronger than her desire that they remember her after she’s gone.

‘Remember’, written by Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) when she was still a teenager, is a classic Victorian poem about mourning and remembrance. It was written in 1849 but not published until 1862 when it appeared in Rossetti’s first volume, Goblin Market and Other Poems .
