7 de abr. de 2022 · The Countries with Dictatorships in the Modern World. As of 2020, there are 52 nations with a dictator or authoritarian regime ruling the country: Three in Latin America and South America, 27 in Asia and the Middle East, and 22 in Africa.
A full 59 countries worldwide are currently considered dictatorial systems. Hard autocracies. The highest level of a dictatorship is the hard autocracy. It concentrates power in a central place and, above all, prevents any rights to freedom and equality.
Current dictatorships include Russia, Equatorial New Guinea, and North Korea. In some cases, nations may have multiple ruling bodies or government types, meaning they're not exclusively countries that are governed by dictatorships.

Globally, 36.9% of the population lives in a government that falls into the bottom tier of the Democracy Index, an authoritarian regime. This group includes 59 countries. Among these countries, Afghanistan had the lowest score, 0.32, and Myanmar came in second-to-last with a score of 0.74.
Totalitarian countries are often also classified as dictatorship countries because they are ruled by a government, headed by either a single dictator or a group of people, that was not chosen by the people in free and fair elections.
