Boundary stone between Baden and Württemberg. The Duchy of Württemberg ( German: Herzogtum Württemberg) was a duchy located in the south-western part of the Holy Roman Empire. It was a state of the Holy Roman Empire from 1495 to 1806.

Kingdom of Württemberg. The Kingdom of Württemberg ( German: Königreich Württemberg [ˌkøːnɪkʁaɪç ˈvʏʁtəmbɛʁk]) was a German state that existed from 1805 to 1918, located within the area that is now Baden-Württemberg. The kingdom was a continuation of the Duchy of Württemberg, which existed from 1495 to 1805. [2]

From 1495, the Duchy of Württemberg's coat of arms included the four quarters shown below. Their symbolism is: Quarters. First: on a field of gold, three black stag's antlers of four branches - the County/Duchy of Württemberg, whose seat was in the original Württemberg castle on a hilltop near Stuttgart.

Württemberg becomes a sub-kingdom in Prussia 's German empire. Died 1921. Wilhelm of Urach, a member of the royal house, is briefly elected king of Lithuania in the hope that this will bring about a form of independence. Instead, Germany 's collapse in 1918 brings about the creation of a republic.

Württemberg was one of the beneficiaries of the Napoleonic Wars, rising rapidly from a relatively small duchy embedded in the Holy Roman Empire to become a sovereign kingdom by 1806, expanding considerably in size and changing its character from an overwhelmingly Lutheran and largely rural state to one with a large Catholic minority and some fairly substantial market towns.
