Hace 4 días · Edmund Beaufort, duke of Somerset (d. 1455), regained Stoke in 1452, and was holding it at his death. Although the manor was resumed by the Crown in the same year, the duke's widow was granted the keepership for seven years in 1456, but surrendered it a year later to her son Henry, duke of Somerset (d. 1464).

Hace 2 días · The manor was held by the Crown until 1547 when it was granted to Edward Seymour, duke of Somerset (d. 1552). It was briefly resumed by the Crown in 1550. Seymour's son Edward, later earl of Hertford, successfully claimed some of his late father's lands and was confirmed in possession of Meare in 1582.
Hace 4 días · The manor descended with Nether Stowey until the attainder of Edward Seymour, duke of Somerset, in 1552 when it was granted to Thomas Dannet. Thomas died in 1569 leaving a son, also Thomas, who in 1584 conveyed the manor to John Walker and his wife Elizabeth.

According to the 1873 return of owners of land the Duke of Beaufort owned an estimated 32,533 acres in Wales (in Monmouthshire, Breconshire and Glamorgan) with an estimated rental of £32,564.
