Throughout her life, de Kooning taught at numerous colleges including Yale University and the Parsons New School for Design. Her paintings are included in the collections of major American museums, such as the Guggenheim Museum and The Museum of Modern Art.

With an exhibition of her portraits at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D. C., in 2015 and with the inclusion of several of her paintings in the 2016 Denver Art Museum exhibition Women of Abstract Expressionism, fortunately Elaine de Kooning's legacy has received increased attention in recent years.
