Charlene "Charlie" Roan is a major character of the movie The Purge: Election Year. She is portrayed by American actress Elizabeth Mitchell.

    The Purge: Election Year

In Election Year, Charlie Roan is the current President Of The United States who won the presidency in 2040 by defeating minister Edwidge Owens and by being the first Female President Of The United States. She ran on a promise to end the purge but Owens does not. Before she was elected President, she was a Senator who was against the purge in both a public and personal way. In the 2022 purge, she and her family were tied up by a masked purger, who taunted them with his "purge playlist", and then told them they would play a final purge game called "Mommy's Choice," where the mother chooses the sole survivor while everyone else dies. Charlie is chosen and forced to watch as her mother, father, and brother are killed. Having been emotionally scarred from witnessing the death of her family, Charlie was motivated to enter politics upon coming of age with the express purpose off having the Purge abolished. In 2040, she runs for president as an Independent candidate and she gains a lot of popularity and momentum in the election season. Her poll numbers go up and by Election Day, she is polling ahead of NFFA presidential candidate Minister Edwidge Owens. Owens, the NFFA, and President Caleb Warrens all view Roan as a threat to them and they try to kill her on purge night by kidnapping her and trying to purge her but they ultimately fail due to Leo Barnes and a few others who help save Roan. A few seconds before the NFFA tries to kill Senator Roan, President Warrens is assassinated and gun fires start to occur. Leo and his team are able to rescue Charlie and are able to find Minister Owens. 2 months after the purge, it's election day and Senator Roan has won many states and ultimately wins Florida, which put her the 270 electoral margin, thus becoming the President-Elect. Once Roan is declared the winner, there are reports of NFFA supporters rioting and being violent in the streets. The story of President Charlie Roan ends there but it is expected that Roan still signed an executive order on banning the Purge.

    The Forever Purge

In The Forever Purge, the NFFA reinstates the Purge following Roan having served two terms, only to spiral out of control by Purgers looking to purge beyond the allotted single day to make up for eight years without a Purge. After the Senate, Congress, Supreme Court and the military disband the NFFA for good, Roan's policy of outlawing the Purge is reinstalled.
