EUGENE WIGNER. Eugene Paul Wigner was born in Budapest, Hungary, on November 17. 1902, into a middle class family of Jewish heritage. His father was director and minority owner in a leather factory. He attended the Lutheran high school in Budapest where he met and became friends with the mathematician John von Neumann.
