26 de feb. de 2021 · In this version after marrying Queen Eleanor, Fair Rosamund was forced to go into seclusion as a nun at Godstow Nunnery, near Wolvercote, where she died at around age 30. Lady Rosamond's ghost is said to still haunt Godstow Nunnery and also The Trout pub in Wolvercote , another site where she and the King are supposed to have met for a romantic tryst.
Rosamond stares at the flask of poison held b the Queen, recognising her doom. Note- this legend makes an attractive picture, but is contradicted by historic al fact. Henry imprisoned Queen Eleanor from1174-1189 for supporting the rebellion of two of her sons against their father. Rosamund entered a nunnery in 1174 or 1176 and died there in 1176.
I preferred the other story, ‘Queen Eleanor and Fair Rosamund’. Unfortunately, the title told me what was going to happen in it - if you know the story of Queen Eleanor, then everything will be clear. We are painted an upper class family brought down to trade but consoling themselves that they are princes among merchants.

Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine (c.1122-1204), the wife of the English King Henry II, was reputed to have murdered his mistress Fair Rosamund and appears here with a poisoned cup and dagger.
