- Black Sabbath. Los miembros de esta banda británica son considerados los padres del metal. Los primeros precursores de este género junto a otras bandas de los años 70 fueron un grupo de jóvenes inconformes con su status social en Birmingham, la Inglaterra de 1968.

- Scorpions. Otra de las bandas de metal pesado organizadas en Hannover en 1965. Sus fundadores fueron el cantante Rudolf Schenker al lado del guitarra Karl-Heinz Follmer, el bajista Lothar Heimberg y el batería Wolfgang Dziony.
- Rainbow. Una de las bandas de rock más famosas lleva el título de creadores del heavy metal junto a Sabbath, Scorpions y Judas. Concebida por Ritchie Blackmore, en Hertford, Inglaterra en 1975, en un primer período hasta 1984 y luego, entre 1994 y 1997.
