In his biography of Henry IV, Ian Mortimer writes this regarding Henry's preparations for his 1390 crusade to Lithuania: Henry also sent a clock to Bolingbroke. This is a detail which seems not to have sparked much attention, but it deserves particular notice if only for the fact that it was portable.

Despite this, he was able to regain his fathers title in 1398 and had many but not all of his family rights restored by King Henry IV. He retained the family role within Hull and traded extensively from the port.
