12 de ago. de 2023 · General Henry Knox was a close friend of George Washington’s, and the first Secretary of War. Knox quickly became the chief artillery officer of the Continental Army. By the end of the war, he held the rank of a major general after participating in many major and critical battles.
On March 8, 1785, Knox took over the Secretary of War position in the Confederation government, succeeding Benjamin Lincoln. When the new government formed in 1789, Knox became the 1st United States Secretary of War, a position he held through 1794.
