Hace 3 días · 1756 - 1823. Sir Henry Raeburn is perhaps the best known of all Scottish painters. He was almost exclusively a portraitist and his career was wholly in Scotland, mainly in Edinburgh. Apprenticed to a jeweller, it is not precisely known how Raeburn's attention turned to painting.
Biography. Raeburn was born at Stockbridge, near Edinburgh, on 4 March 1756, the younger of the two sons of Robert Raeburn and Ann Elder. He was educated at George Heriot's Hospital, Edinburgh, and at the age of sixteen was apprenticed to the goldsmith James Gilliband.
