Although he is considered one of the most important figures in the entire Age of Discovery and Exploration, Prince Henry of Portugal never sailed anywhere. Instead, he is credited with channeling most of Portugal's capital into funding excursions around Africa's coast, eventually leading to Vasco da Gama's successful voyage to India in 1498 after Prince Henry's death.
