In Ep. 7 (Loyalty), when Styles makes his mark in the ship's books to serve on the Hotspur, we see not only his entry, but those of Matthews and Wolfe as well. TOP of the list was the Horatio Hornblower TV series (1998-2003). This A&E mini-series was based on C.S. Forester’s books about a British naval officer (Hornblower) during the Napoleonic wars. It’s a magnificent show.
