With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was a popular singer of blue-eyed soul, pop and dramatic ballads, with French chanson, country, and jazz in her repertoire.

If you ever see any of those videos, which I recommend of Bacharach accompanying, say, Dusty Springfield — the way he looks at the singer, drawing out the best in her, is the way Mozart behaves in this scene. They even look a bit alike.
