Doc Hudson, also known as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, was a Piston Cup racer from 1951 to 1954. From late 2005 to 2009, Doc was the crew chief of 7-time Piston Cup champion Lightning McQueen. Doc was and still is a great inspiration to many racers including The King, Dale Earnhardt Sr, Lightning McQueen, and many others.

The 1954 Piston Cup saw Hudson Hornet suffer a major crash which forced him to quit the racing world, which occurs before the events of the first film.
