Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, founded in 1810, is a testament to the classical ideal of higher education. As one of the oldest universities in Berlin, it was established on principles laid down by the scholar Wilhelm von Humboldt, emphasising the unity of teaching and research and the value of fostering holistic education.

Fue fundada por el prusiano liberal Wilhelm von Humboldt en 1810 con el nombre de «Universidad de Berlín» (Universität zu Berlin). Simultáneamente se fundó también un museo de historia natural que al principio estuvo albergado en el mismo edificio que la universidad: el Museo de Historia Natural de Berlín .
