Isidor Isaac Rabi was born in Rymanow, Austria-Hungary, in 1898, at the very end of the 19th century, when X-rays, radioactivity and the electron were discovered. The following year his parents moved to New York City where he attended public school, but gaining much of his education and interest in science through books borrowed from the public library.
