Throughout Israel’s journey toward becoming one of the greatest Hawaiian singers, his wife has a big role. On top of that, Marlene also supported her husband through his constant battle against obesity.

Israel Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole (May 20, 1959 – June 26, 1997), also called Braddah IZ or just simply IZ, was a Native Hawaiian musician and singer. He achieved commercial success and popularity outside of Hawaii with his 1993 studio album, Facing Future.

That included his older brother, says Vice: Skippy Kamakawiwo'ole was one of the band's founding members, and died of an obesity-related heart condition when he was just 28 years old.
