Jacobitism [c] was a political movement that supported the restoration of the senior line of the House of Stuart to the British throne. The name derives from the first name of James II of England, which is rendered in Latin as Jacobus.

It commemorates the last three members of the Royal House of Stuart: James Francis Edward Stuart (d. 1766), his elder son Charles Edward Stuart (d. 1788), and his younger son, Henry Benedict Stuart (d. 1807). The Jacobites recognised these three as kings of England, Scotland and Ireland.
