9 de may. de 2024 · James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, 1st Duke of Buccleuch, KG, PC (9 April 1649 – 15 July 1685) was a Dutch-born English nobleman and military officer. Originally called James Crofts or James Fitzroy, he was born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the eldest illegitimate son of Charles II of England with his mistress Lucy Walter .
9 de may. de 2024 · On 20 April 1663, she married, James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth (the illegitimate son of Charles II of England his mistress, Lucy Walter) and she and her husband were created Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch on that day.
Hace 2 días · Charles's eldest son, the Duke of Monmouth, led a rebellion against James II, but was defeated at the Battle of Sedgemoor on 6 July 1685, captured and executed. James was eventually dethroned in 1688, in the course of the Glorious Revolution .

8 de may. de 2024 · Monmouth's Rebellion was not by Monmouth's placid citizens, but by James Scott, a Duke of Monmouth. On the 11th June 1685 the exiled Duke of Monmouth, illegitimate son of Charles II, landed at Lyme Regis in Dorset with a small force in an attempt to topple the new Catholic king James II.
