John Alvin (born John Alvin Hoffstadt, October 24, 1917 – February 27, 2009) was an American film, stage and television actor. He appeared in over 25 films for Warner Brothers and numerous television and theater roles throughout his career, which spanned from the 1940s to the 1990s.

John Alvin was an American artist and painter who is most famous for his movie posters. Producing images for over 200 films, Alvin’s extremely evocative style became a mainstay in the industry over the course of his career. Indeed, Alvinesque is now shorthand for a work that is both technically proficient and extremely emotional.
