Emma Garlett, a Nyiyaparli-Yamatji-Nyungar woman from Geraldton, is the 2022 Wesfarmers John Monash Scholar.A recent graduate of Curtin University’s Law School, she will work to further protect Aboriginal culture heritage in mining decisions as she undertakes a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Civil Laws at the University of Oxford.
General Sir John Monash, GCMG, KCB, VD (/ ˈ m ɒ n æ ʃ /; 27 June 1865 – 8 October 1931) was an Australian civil engineer and military commander of the First World War. He commanded the 13th Infantry Brigade before the war and then, shortly after its outbreak, became commander of the 4th Brigade in Egypt, with whom he took part in the Gallipoli campaign .

The General Sir John Monash Foundation has today announced the 13 recipients of its 2021 scholarships, Australia’s most prestigious postgraduate overseas study program.
John Monash Scholars are exceptional Australians capable of identifying and tackling the challenges of our time, to create positive and lasting change. The first 8 John Monash Scholarships were awarded in 2003 for study commencing in 2004. To date, the General Sir John Monash Foundation has awarded 215 Scholarships.
Post-war, Sir John Monash was the first General Manager of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. Later he became the Vice-Chancellor of The University of Melbourne. As well as being a founding member of the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Australia’s first Rotary Club, he was also the founding president of the Zionist Federation of Australia and New Zealand.
