3 de may. de 2024 · Vanbrugh Castle. This is a fortress-like folly built by Sir John Vanburgh, or Vanbrugh, the architect and dramatist, for his own occupation when he was Surveyor to the Royal Naval Hospital in 1719. Sir John lived there from 1719 to 1726, as attested by a blue plaque outside.

Hace 1 día · His architectural interests were focused on Lumley Castle, which he commissioned Sir John Vanbrugh to improve in the 1720s. Richard committed suicide unmarried in 1740 and Stansted passed — independent of the Earldom — to a younger, spendthrift brother, James or Jemmy.

He rejected the Baroque style, and spent three years studying architecture in France and Italy before returning to Ireland. His most important Palladian work is the former Irish Houses of Parliament in Dublin. [102]
