  3. Microscopy became very popular among scientists. In 1830, the prototype for the Compound Microscope was created when Joseph Jackson Lister created a way to reduce spherical aberration, known as the chromatic effect, by combining multiple weak lenses without blurring the image, as opposed to lenses with higher magnifications.

  4. Joseph Jackson Lister is credited with making some of the most impor- tant advances toward correcting image aberrations and establishing the microscope as a powerful means of carrying out serious scientific investigations. Born in London, England on January 11, 1786, Lister was a Quaker whose interest in optics was sparked in his youth.

  5. In 1826, the English wine-merchant and amateur scientist Joseph Jackson Lister (1786-1869) – father of the renowned surgeon Joseph Lister – made an important technical breakthrough. He developed an ‘achromatic’ lens which compensated for a distortion called ‘chromatic aberration’.

  6. 28 de sept. de 2013 · He was a second-stage rocket: his father, Joseph Jackson Lister, a prosperous Quaker wine-merchant, of the Essex village of Upton, on the margins of London, was the inventor of the achromatic lens, said to have transformed the microscope from a scientific toy to a serious tool of discovery.
