12 de mar. de 2012 · Argentinean music is not only melancholic tangos or shanty town cumbias, it’s also Sosa’s Northern accent, how she whistles the ‘r’, her strong aboriginal features, the sound of charangos and bombos. La Negra’s music feels like a call from pachamama, Mother Earth, the Andes benevolent deity.
Sosa acquired the nickname ‘La Negra’ because of her jet black hair. Born on the 9th July 1935 in San Miguel de Tucumán, the capital of one of Argentina’s smallest provinces, into a working class family from mixed French and Amerindian (indigenous) ancestry, Haydee Mercedes Sosa started singing and folk dancing as a child.
