Lancelot Brown (born c. 1715–16, baptised 30 August 1716 – 6 February 1783), more commonly known as Capability Brown, was an English gardener and landscape architect, who remains the most famous figure in the history of the English landscape garden style.
Lancelot Brown (baptized Aug. 30, 1716, Kirkharle, Northumberland, Eng.—died Feb. 6, 1783, London) was the foremost English master of garden design, whose works were characterized by their natural, unplanned appearance. Brown was born in Kirkharle, in northern England, likely in 1716.
