As far as real estate was concerned, there was one central figure in the drama surrounding 9/11: Larry Silverstein. He was already a legendary figure in the business, but he had taken possession of the Twin Towers only six weeks earlier, which added a whole backstory.
Only six weeks after Silverstein’s company, Silverstein Properties, took title to the 10-million-square-foot World Trade Center, Al Qaeda terrorists staged the worst assault in United States history on the towers, killing over 2,600 people.
