The park offers several dive sites to explore and is suitable for all skill levels. The kelp forest at Leo Carrillo is absolutely huge, and substantial reefs extend beyond the kelp cover into deeper water down to 50 feet, unusual for a beach dive. There are walls, pinnacles and channels galore to follow toward the depths.
With over a half-mile of beach, Leo Carrillo State Beach offers a few different good dive sites with easy parking and great amenities. Unusual for a beach dive, the kelp bed here is huge and easy to reach from shore. The shallow depth and proximity to shore makes this site great for diving and snorkeling alike.

Here you will have a glide through a kelp forest that rivals that of most out at Catalina Island. And it’s only a few minutes’ drive from the hustle and bustle that is LA.
Leo Carrillo State Beach is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located at Mulholland Hwy & Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265. This dive site has an average rating of 3.64 out of 5 from 14 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 36-40ft/11-12m. The average visibility is 16-20ft/5-6m. On some days the vis here can be awesome.
