In Leon: The Professional (1994), his potted plant is a variety of aglaonema, and Leon says it is like him because it has 'no roots'. At the end of the movie, Mathilda plants it in the grounds of her new school (insert) to give it roots, which will kill it. (source & explanation in comments).

20 de oct. de 2023 · It's an Aglaonema, or Chinese evergreen. Common indoor plant. Unfortunately, Mathilda planting it outside would kill it. These are tropical plants that don't hold up to the cold of NY where it is set. Of course, the movie is filmed mostly in Paris, which rarely gets below freezing. Share.

This plant is an aglaonema, and since first seeing it in the film a few years ago, I made it my mission to get myself a ‘Leon plant‘. I have since acquired two Aglaonemas (aka Chinese evergreen), which are similar but not exactly the same as Leon’s.
