Blanche, in despair, shoots George once again, finally killing him. Margaret kills Blanche with her shotgun and escapes with Peter, Lorna, and Jimmy.

A black horse quietly returns to the ranch, riderless. A scoop of ice cream falls from a little boy’s cone onto the sidewalk. Subtle moments, all, but they do so much to set the scene and establish the themes of regret and redemption in “Let Him Go.” This is the kind of solid, grown-up drama we don’t see very often anymore.
In the climactic final scenes, George and Margaret Blackledge (played by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane) confront Blanche Weboy (played by Lesley Manville) and her family in an intense showdown. While the ending does not tie up all loose ends, it offers closure and resolution to the central conflict. 1. George and Margaret’s Journey:
When she orders him to hit Margaret, George grabs his gun and points it at them. The men overpower him, and Blanche orders Donnie to chop off his fingers with a hatchet, which he does. When they leave, Margaret takes George to the hospital.
It works in a couple ways though… let the kid go (from the crazy family), let her husband go in the end, let their son go when he dies, let Peter go from the residential school to live on his own terms.
