Lonnie Donegan starb im November 2002 im Alter von 71 Jahren während einer Tour durch Großbritannien, kurz bevor er auf einem Konzert zum Gedenken an George Harrison auftreten sollte. Er hinterließ drei Töchter und vier Söhne aus drei Ehen. Einer seiner Söhne, Peter Donegan, tritt ebenfalls als Sänger und Musiker auf.
