Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby, KG (1435 – 29 July 1504) was an English nobleman. He was the stepfather of King Henry VII of England. He was the eldest son of Thomas Stanley, 1st Baron Stanley and Joan Goushill .

Thomas Stanley, 1st earl of Derby was a prominent figure in the later stage of England’s Wars of the Roses. Great-grandson of Sir John Stanley (died c. 1414), who created the fortunes of the Stanley family, Thomas Stanley began his career as a squire to King Henry VI in 1454.

1 de sept. de 2021 · Lord Stanley was one of the barons who advocated a peace settlement. He did participate in the brief campaign, contributing a retinue of 40 lances and 300 archers. He also joined Richard Duke of Gloucester’s campaign into Scotland in 1482. Lord Stanley is most famously known for his actions connected to the Battle of Bosworth.
The three main armies in 1485 were the king’s, Yorkist army in the region of 10,000-12,000; The rebel, Lancastrian army of approximately 5,000 men led by Henry Tudor and the third force of about 6,000 men led by the one-time Lancastrian, but more recently Yorkist noble, Lord Thomas Stanley.
