Seal of Los Angeles. The Seal of the City of Los Angeles is, since 1905, the official seal of the City of Los Angeles, a city located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of California . The escutcheon is encircled by the legal name of the city (City of Los Angeles) and year founded (1781).

It is used on official county documents, vehicular decals, on buildings, and is displayed on the bear-top shield badge worn by uniformed county officers. It is also featured prominently on the county's flag. The current seal was adopted in 2016 and is identical to a design initially adopted in 2004.
The official seal for the City of Los Angeles was designed by Herbert L. Goudge, a deputy city attorney, and officially adopted on March 27, 1905 via Ordinance 10,834. The coat of arms in the center of the seal displays 4 different images representing 4 different stages of Los Angeles' history;

This seal was designed by by former Supervisor Kenneth Hahn and drawn by Millard Sheets. It was adopted by the Board of Supervisors on January 2, 1957 and became effective on March 1, 1957.
The blue signifies clear skies. The green border is to keep Los Angeles beautiful and the gold lettering “County of Los Angeles” stands for the land of opportunity for everyone since gold was discovered in California The seal is the official seal of the County of Los Angeles.
