Luise Rainer, German-born film actress who was the first person to receive two Academy Awards for acting. She won her back-to-back Oscars for her role as Anna Held in The Great Ziegfeld (1936) and for playing O-Lan in The Good Earth (1937). Her career was brief, however, and her last Hollywood movie was in 1943.
