  3. I'd argue Tinuviel was her name (sorta). A bit like Turin Turambar - the latter name is associated with his birth-name. Luthien Tinuviel is basically the same thing imo. It became a part of her full name. Of course, in the moment, it wasn't her name - but to Beren - who didn't know her true name - it was. Nightingale was her name to him.

In The Silmarillion when Beren first sees Lύthien he names her Tinúviel, which is nightingale in the language of the Grey-elves.
