Mamie Till-Mobley (born November 23, 1921, near Webb, Mississippi, U.S.—died January 6, 2003, Chicago, Illinois) was an American educator and activist who helped galvanize the emerging civil rights movement after her son, Emmett Till, was murdered in 1955 for allegedly flirting with a white grocery store clerk in Mississippi.

Mamie Elizabeth Till-Mobley [a] (born Mamie Elizabeth Carthan; November 23, 1921 – January 6, 2003) was an American educator and activist. She was the mother of Emmett Till, the 14-year-old teenager murdered in Mississippi on August 28, 1955, after accusations that he had whistled at a white grocery store cashier named Carolyn Bryant.

On August 31, 1955, the body of 14-year-old Emmett Till was found in the Tallahatchie River in Mississippi. His corpse was so mutilated that he could only be identified by his ring.
