"Mary Jane Holland" is a song written by Lady Gaga for ARTPOP.
On August 22nd, 2012, Lady Gaga and her then makeup artist Tara Savelo had a little engagement on Twitter about the ARTPOP, which Savelo claims is influenced by marijuana.
"nothing like watching @ladygaga in her waspy white sweater and brown hair write the hardest marijuana record of all time. #maryjaneholland"
It is believed that Tara Savelo was talking about the album as a whole. However, it would not be wrong to mention that, most likely, she meant one song particularly, "Mary Jane Holland", since she added its title as a hashtag at the end of her tweet and lyrically the song deals with the description of Mary Jane Holland, Lady Gaga's alter ego who comes out during when Gaga gets high off of marijuana. It means that Lady Gaga might have worked on the song at that period.
Gaga herself then facetiously shared that drugs and Disney princesses are the key inspiration for the album and for "Mary Jane Holland" in particular.

Also, Lady Gaga herself gave a hint about the song in September of 2012 at an Amsterdam show of The Born This Way Ball where she introduced herself to the audience as Mary Jane Holland.
