  3. Hace 5 días · Al Natural History Museum di Londra non ero mai stata, ed è una tappa che secondo me merita di essere inclusa. Innanzitutto perché si trova all’interno di un bellissimo edificio storico di South Kensington, l’Alfred Waterhouse Building, costruito nel 1881 e in seguito incorporato all’interno di quello che allora era il museo geologico.

Hace 6 días · The Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum at Tring (now known as the Natural History Museum at Tring) was added in 1937 when it was given to the nation by the second Baron Rothschild. Responsibility was assumed for the Geological Museum (now the Earth Galleries) from the Natural Environment Research Council when the latter's British Geological Survey moved to Keyworth in 1985.

The building was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, (designer of The Natural History Museum) and Edward, Prince of Wales, laid the Foundation Stone for the building in 1870. The proceedings began with a choice of an 8.5 mile walk around the Kennet and River Thames or a 4 mile walk around Reading University.

  6. Hace 1 día · The original architect of the Natural History Museum, Francis Fowke, designer of Albert Hall, won a competition to design the new building in 1864, but died a year later. The project was taken over by Alfred Waterhouse, who changed the design to use terracotta tile inside and out to combat the sooty environment of London at the time.
