It is strongly associated with the English and succeeding British royal family, and embodies almost a millennium of architectural history . The original castle was built in the 11th century, after the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror.

Hace 6 días · The Domesday Survey records the existence of a royal town at Windsor containing ninety-five closes, but it is probable that this entry refers to Old Windsor, which during the Saxon period had been the site of a royal house, and not to the new town, which was already, perhaps, beginning to grow up nearer the castle.
