Mondrian's paintings of the 1920s are the clearest expression of his ideal of purity and universal harmony in Neoplastic expression. It was only around 1925 that Mondrian began to receive recognition for his contribution to modernism, with his paintings entering the collections of wealthy Europeans and Americans.

Piet Mondrian (nacido como Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan; Amersfoort, 7 de marzo de 1872-Nueva York, 1 de febrero de 1944) fue un pintor vanguardista neerlandés. Fue miembro de la corriente De Stijl y fundador del neoplasticismo, junto con Theo van Doesburg.
Noted as an influential abstract painter. Piet Mondrian started as a realistic landscape painter before moving to Paris and being influenced by the Cubist movement. Later, Mondrian was involved in the De Stijl movement (1917-1931) in art and architecture, publishing several essays in the De Stijl journal.
